"I have lived in the Mid-Atlantic region nearly all my life. It's a curiously diverse region, encompassing the Chesapeake Bay, DelMarVa Peninsula & the Eastern Shore and includes Baltimore and the outlying area of Lutherville-Timonium. This region is diverse in landscape, including mountains, hills, wetlands and the coastal waters of the Atlantic. It is generally known for lumber, fishing and farming communities. The Mid-Atlantic region is one of the earliest settled areas of the original thirteen colonies. This region is rich in history, natural resources as well as industry, business and trade and serves as a center of government and education, including some of this nation's finest educational and research institutions. This region is also the area in which most of our nation's magazines and professional journals are published. The extremes in the landscape and culture are inspiring and advantageous for a writer and artist. Within a three hour drive, you could leave inner city Baltimore and reach the serenity of the Atlantic Ocean. Lutherville, my previous residence, is centrally located to some of our nation's largest cities, including Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York City.
I am presently living in Fort Collins, Colorado. I moved to Fort Collins about two years ago and enjoy living here. The weather is quite different than the East Coast, here it is mostly sunny, bright and warm. The people of Fort Collins, joke about the weather. They say there are two seasons and four quarters: Fall, Fall, Summer and Fall, which is not really true, but summer seems to be from Mid - April through September and fall seems to be from October through December, January, February and March seem to be winter, which is still mild compared to winter on the East Coast. The landscape here is quite different, I am living near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I love the mountains and foothills, there is an unexplanable comfort living near mountains, I'm not sure why. Northern Colorado is beautiful, from the misty purple mountain views to the great red rocks of Poudre Canyon. I love the drive to Estes, along the Big Thompson River. The Canyon is majestic and peaceful. In my new hometown, Fort Collins, there is a great concern for the environment. One of the best features are Fort Collins Bike Trails, which weave throughout the city and provide a wonderful habitat for birds, like Ospreys, Eagles and other seasonal friends like Magpies and Snow Geese. The sunrises and sunsets are beautiful and unlike living in an industrial city, Colorado's night skies are full of stars. Even the snow in Colorado is different, it falls like stardust, beautifully white, large flakes that catch the sunlight in magical ways.
